....Work with what you have.
My mom was a Missionary Kid, and grew up in Papua New Guinea. They lived on next to nothing, and as a result, she always had many wonderful ways to save money in the kitchen as I grew up. I didn't realize how invaluable those lessons were, until now.
One of my favorite tips that I use frequently is to save the butter wrappers. I usually refold them and keep them in the door of the fridge, for easy access. When time to butter a cookie sheet, bowl for bread dough or any other number of things, I pull it out and use the wrapper to do the work.
She also taught me to save the wax paper from cereal boxes. I find myself saving paper from flour wrappers for the kids to color on, as a result. Really, she really is a thrifty and creative lady, and I hope that an ounce of such creativity has rubbed off on me.
More "Momma" tips coming soon...
