Birthday season isn't quite closed. Christian's birthday is coming up in a week, and Jonathan's in a month. 'Tana Nana sent the boys their gifts early, and they came in some fun boxes.
After I opened the boxes and put the gifts away, I was faced with a dillema. Whatever should I do with these boxes? Of course, I cannot throw them out with two little boys in the house....
And so, while they slept, I got to cutting, taping, and creating. Box #1 transformed into....
A BBQ! I tried to model it after their daddy's grill, so that they could grill with him at dinnertime. I used old knobs that we had so that they could actually turn knobs on the grill, and created handles for the doors below with some old plastic latches. I drew the grill lines on, and painted in between them with red paint to indicate that the grill was "hot". I grabbed Jonathan's play food, handed them both spatulas, and they had a blast!
I gave Christian creative freedom on Box #2. He asked for (surprise, surprise) a hot rod racecar. So...a hot rod racecar is what he got...
I really only used masking tape, markers and paint for everything. The steering wheel was made from an old plastic circle that I kept from some packaging. I wrapped it in foil to make it extra fun. I put it on a pillar so that Christian could turn the wheel. He decided to push Jonathan in the car down the hall, and then we took it outside to give them more freedom.
A few years ago, my afternoons were spent in a cubicle, talking to high-powered business executives about high dollar real estate transactions. Now they are spent with masking tape and carboard boxes creating for my little boys. What a contrast!
