The 11th Hour...

Today was Veteran's Day. Are you familiar with its history? Originally the reason for its observance was to commemorate the end of "The Great War" (WWI). World War I was over on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, though the peace treaty wasn't signed until June. We now observe Veteran's Day as a day to thank our troops for their hard work and sacrifice.

I made sure to fly our flag and pray for our troops both at home and abroad. Much to my surprise, I got to tell my brother "thank you for your service" in person, as he and a fellow Marine, Alex, came out to visit for the day. The arrived at lunch and left around 7:30pm. What a treat! The guys played Wii while I worked, and they even played a bit with Christian (who enjoyed having new people around).

Uncle Jake reading with Christian
Christian played with uncle Jake quite a bit, and it seemed that they both thoroughly enjoyed each other. I was so glad I have a pantry and an imagination, as I REALLY need to go grocery shopping and didn't have a clue what to feed the guys. I ended up throwing together a BBQ Chicken pizza for dinner and chocolate peanut butter bars for dessert. I also loaded the guys up on left over Halloween candy, to keep their sugar buzz going. :-)

Christian and I had gone out to take down the flag at sunset, and I was able to take a couple of great pics of the sky. We have so much to be thankful for, and Jake, Alex, and others just like them are tremendous reasons we continue to have the freedoms that we do. I am so inspired by these guys.

Jake's deployment is impending, and I am soaking up every second I get with him until that day. Don't forget our troops at home and abroad in your prayers!
