I know what some of you might be thinking, "Jolene, you just lost your job. Why don't you just sit back and relax for a little while?" Well, that is nice in theory. However, I found that this particular project was strangely pressing. You see, every day for more than a year now my home office has resided two rooms down from my bedroom. That is where I took my calls, conducted training sessions, conference calls and other business. And after I was laid off, it was a constant reminder of what had happened.
An idea of what my office looked like previously.
And so, over the weekend I put my desk on Craig's List to sell ASAP. Monday we went to Ikea and picked up some items. Tuesday I sold my desk and the light in the room for a $60 profit. Wednesday I started painting the room...it took a whopping 3 coats (GRRR). Thursday I put the bed together and Friday Christian got to take his first nap in his new room. The room has now been fully TRANSFORMED, and there is absolutely no residue of the former office.
The room is nearly done. I'm going to use Dr. Seuss book covers (scanned and printed) as the artwork for the wall to add a pop of color. My mom made the bedspread from seeing the picture in the Pottery Barn catalog. (She is AMAZING.) Bookshelf - a closet organizer from Target. Table - an IKEA coffee table. Chairs from Ikea also. Bed - I found this baby at Big Lots...along with the mattress.
Dresser - another Ikea find. Curtains - clearance item from Walmart. My favorite buy? That HUGE rug that covers all the right places. It is what I call 'Cat in the Hat Blue', and I got it on clearance at Ikea. Original price? Over $150. It was a display (no damage AT ALL). I paid $50.

The only thing left to do is organize the closet, and move the clothes from the nursery into Christian's new room. I've already filled the bookshelf, and Christian has quickly made himself at home, "reading" all his new books. ;-)
Christian napping on his new bed. Check out that rail...I got it for FREE on Craig's List Friday (and it had never been used and is in great condition). It has helped tremendously with the big boy bed sleeping. Hallelujah.
P.S. - See the post from 4/17/09 for the finished room!
