In Honor of Stay at Home Mommas

As Mother's Day is quickly approaching, I wanted to honor the moms in our lives...I've recently had some time to consider the full time job of being a 100% stay at home momma. After talking to many of my friends that have worn that hat for some time, they all agree that being a SAHM is the hardest job they've ever had, by far.

Stay at home moms work 24/7. Their job is strikingly different from a corporate job for this very reason. Working moms work 40 hours a week and then come home to deal with the kids / house / husband. Stay at home moms never start / leave their job - they are always on duty. I've also observed something disturbing: because our culture bases a person's success and worth on their monetary value, a stay at home mom is at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to getting R-E-S-P-E-C-T.

Moms who stay at home are paid in hugs, kisses and giggly moments. The stir-crazy feeling they battle on a daily basis is combated with visits to the park, library, grocery store and sandbox. Instead of allowing someone else to teach their kids life lessons, stay at home mommas are the ones to reveal the way blue paint and yellow paint makes green paint, and how after planting a seed, a little sprout raises up from that very spot.

It is often a thankless job, and not valued the way it should be by popular culture, but Stay at Home Mommas are HEROES. Their sacrifices go unnoticed far too often, but they run deep. To all of you who are stay at home mommas, keep up the good work. It isn't an easy job, but in 30 years when your kiddos have their own kiddos, you will be so thankful for the time you were blessed to raise your children.
