Thoughts on Homemaking

I've been really focusing on being a full-time homemaker for a good year and a half now.  In the midst of that, I have stumbled a bit in my focus, but I have to say that I'm enjoying the process.

Something that I think that is so important for young women to realize is that Homemaking is serious business.  It is not about bon bons and Oprah in the afternoon.  There is cleaning to be done, errands run, bills paid, projects tackled, a husband to be nurtured and children to be taught.  You are never "off the clock".  The demands can be great...greater even than a demanding corporate job.

It is interesting to me that so many people take Homemaking lightly.  I've certainly met women who allow the house to be a mess, keep up on their reality or talk shows all day long and ignore their children only before complaining about and then to their husband after he comes home from a long day at work.  However, I've found more often than not that Homemakers are humble, helpful, focused and driven women.  They have a wealth of information to share about everything within the home, and I am often so encouraged to find the smartest women I've met doing the 'Homemaker thing' rather than continuing in the corporate sector after they become mothers.

Truly, it takes an intrinsicly motivated person to make a healthy and happy home.  But when done with the best of intentions and efforts, it is by far the most thoroughly rewarding occupation a woman can have.

The goal of my heart is to become more like the Proverbs 31 woman today than I was yesterday, and more tomorrow than I was today.  Praying for my fellow homemakers in their journey as well.
