A Pledge

United States Post Office, Nuevo, California

Today's first errand was quite typical.  We made a quick stop to my favorite small-town post office.  Discussed how big my 15 month old was getting with our favorite postal worker, Cari, and headed out.

Once outside, we headed straight for the flagpole to pledge allegiance to the flag.  I have been doing this with Christian for well over a year now, and try to do it every time we see a US flag. He may not understand the profound meaning of the pledge now, but one day he will.

As the three of us stood at the base of the flagpole, right hand on hearts, saying our pledge, an older gentleman (think "Greatest Generation") stopped to watch.  He took his hat off and watched us.  I could see him from the corner of my eye, and wondered if I might be in his way.

When we were done, he smiled dearly, and said, "Good job, ma'am."

And then my heart melted.
