Inferiority Complex

Dishes piled high.  Grout stained 1000 times darker than it ought to be.  Bills unpaid.  Dust settled on shelves cleaned yesterday.  Children screaming at each other.  Starving husband.  Cake and buttercream settled on hips and thighs.  Disappointment in daily failures.  Inferiority complex encompassed.

If we were to focus solely on our failures, we'd never get out of bed.  Why would you peel yourself from under the perfectly comfortable and safe covers to enter into a day of constant failure, discouragement and disappointment?

I'll tell you why.  If you laid in bed, the profound theological questions posed by a three year old in wonderment of the flowers would fall on deaf ears.  A family would suffocate in dust and dirty clothes; starve for lack of nutrition.  Many a "Why?" would go unanswered.  The laughter that slips out of the sweetest smiles on the planet would be missed.  You see, whether you like it or not, your job is among the noblest of occupations.  You raise up fine fellows and ladies of the future.  If you failed to risk the discouragements of the day, you would end your life with more regrets than memories.

Sometimes the most difficult challenge of the day is simply to get up to take it on.  And so, let us get up and set aside our disappointments, our insecurities, our sense of inferiority.  Let us try a little harder today than we did yesterday.  Prioritize.  Remember that the dishes can wait, but the rewarding moments come when you least expect them.  Your husband deserves your touch.  You deserve joy, and joy is yours for the taking today.

No matter what depth of challenges your days hold, your life is what you make of it.  So why not make it sugar pie?
