The Path to Freedom

The path to freedom is paved by a mixture of blood, sweat and tears.  Good men and women have sacrificed their own liberties, their own freedoms, their own lives for those of their fellow Americans.  Many young men and women leave all semblance of comfort behind when they enter the armed forces.  They maintain the same philosophy: the freedom that we enjoy when we vote, speak, worship and assemble is so valuable that it is worth risking everything for.

As Americans, we ought to be thankful every day for the path to freedom that has been paved for us.  Our tender feet will never have to know the shards that our heroes endure to make smooth our path.  Our children will be raised in a country where the "pursuit of happiness" is actually a reality.  The majority of those who walk the path of freedom will never comprehend the depth nor breadth of the sacrifices made for them.

We ought to pray daily for those who are currently supporting the infrastructure with their sacrifices.  We ought to pray for our Commander in Chief, who has the responsibility to maintain the path of freedom with the lives of these souls.  We ought to pray and thank God for the families of our heroes in camouflage, as without support they may not be able to stand and fight.

Today, I remember.  I remember the families left behind by the construction of the path to freedom.  I remember the young lives, filled with so much potential, cut short.  I remember the gift, the blessing that it is to live in a country where men and women, of their own accord, enlist to sacrifice for the greater good.  May God bless sacrifices made, and may God bless America.
