Disappearing Act - A Personal Post

I took this picture several months ago. This television had been sitting on our street in front of someones house for months, and after time the weather and people took a toll on it. I really thought it was a beautiful picture of a thousand metaphors.

The metaphor most fitting today is a personal one:  "Beauty and potential broken down by time and elements."

I feel like this television.

A Conversation with a Preschooler

Hubby and I have given Christian a challenge in preschool: learn a new name / make a new friend every day.  I've noticed a trend...they have all been girls.  When I asked him about this today, he told me that he just likes girls.

As Danny asked Christian about his name assignment today, he asked about one of Christian's first friends, Bella.  (Christian had told me that Bella isn't nice and doesn't want him around.)

This is the conversation that ensued:

Christianisms...They Keep Comin'

Christian: "Jonny, say 'Mommy'....'Daddy'....'Christian'..."
(Jonathan says them, thus obeying his brother's demands.)
Christian: "Jonny, say 'Migration'.  SAY IT."
Jonathan: "Mi.................ga......................shon."

A Fairytale Wedding

Ryan is my cousin on my dad's side, and he and I were born only months apart.  I have great pictures of us running around in matching pajamas and remember fun Thanksgivings and Easters spent together.

Ryan met his beautiful bride, Vanessa, in a way we never would have imagined before the invent of the world wide web: an internet dating site.  From the stories I've heard, it was a very real, very deep connection that they shared from the start.  Something of a modern fairytale.

Preschool

It's official.  My Christian Daniel is in preschool.  He is a big boy.

His first day of school was his birthday.  He turned four and started preschool.

Where did the time go?

Danny went to the same school, with the same view of the hills behind Christian in this picture.

My Little Pumpkin

Once upon a time, three months ago, I had three little pumpkins growing on my vine.  I blissfully chronicled their growth every day.  One day, Christian came into the house while I prepared dinner and excitedly told me that he had picked me a "squash".  It was one of my pumpkins.  My heart sank.  ::SIGH...Frustrated SIGH::  One less potential jack-o-lantern.  Only days later I came out to find that another one of my pumpkin babies had shriveled up and died.  ::SIGH::  I then peeked under the leaves at baby pumpkin number three.  Was it, could it be?  He seemed to be gaining weight!  ::Happy dance::

Motherhood is...

Being quietly awed by sweet sibling moments.

A Basil Trick

My mother-in-law is a very inspirational gardener.  Whenever I have a gardening question that I can't find an answer to, she invariably has the answer I'm looking for.

Jonny and a Big Boy Bed

Jonathan, my darling little boy, is becoming more of a big boy by the minute.  He's been climbing out of his crib for quite a while now, and it has concerned me a bit.  The sound of a bonk and then the three second silence before a heart-wrenching scream awoke me many a morning, and that is no way for anyone to wake up.  And so, we decided, it was time.  Time, for the big boy bed.
