Baking 101

The thing I love about baking is that, though it is an art, it is also an exact science.  When you follow the “plan” (aka recipe), you will end up with a tasty (and often sweet) finished product.  Isn’t that like our faith?  The Bible provides a “recipe to success in life” and all you have to do is follow it to have a sweet life.

This week we had a blast in the kitchen.  Jessica and Savannah brought their homework from last week for us to taste.  They were delicious.  Then we got to the nitty gritty and made Pioneer Woman brownies (same recipe as this one, but without the chocolate chunks and made in an 8"x8" pan).  I had brought a pan of brownies made from a mix so that we could compare.  Sidenote: there is no comparison.

We then conquered the basics of baking.  I have print outs of all of these, in case you are interested, but basically we talked about the basic baker's pantry, tools and terms.

I want to again bring you back to the Proverbs 31 woman.  She takes joy and finds her identity in taking care of her household as a whole.  She bakes, cooks, sews, plans, saves and is a business saavy entrepreneur.  I want to encourage you to seek your identity in Christ, don’t seek to deny it based upon cultural standards.  Embrace womanhood.  Take joy in the things that delight your heart.  And if chocolate (and serving others chocolate) delights your heart, well go to town!

Homework:
BAKE.  Bread or sweets.  Keep recipe simple.  Take pictures and / or journal to document your homework.  Optional: bring in your treats to next week’s class.

Continue your dates with God and journaling.
